Mock youth parliament at St.Montfort School is an innovative concept to venture minds facilitating leadership skills and thinking power and increasing awareness on issues of national and importance amongst young people with a single ruling party and a single opposition party. The first edition of the Mock Parliament took place on 22 Nov 2017, which not only was an educational tool to promote the understanding of the parliamentary proceedings but also provided an apt platform for the students whose enthusiasm amazed the School’s Principal Rev.Bro. Alex, Vice Principal Rev. Bro. John and teachers.
The Mock Parliament session helped students to discover their uninhibited expression of young people with the aim of sustaining a platform that enables young students to be effective and expressive agents of change. The Topic provided for class –X was “Demonetization onlypain no gainâ€and for 9th Class was “Impact of privatization on Indian Economyâ€. What was most appealing to watch were the young leaders taking Oath. They paid tribute to thedeparted seniorparliamentarian and former union minister, followed by 2 Minutes silence; this was followed by the introduction of the Minister and the question hour confrontation, which was completely in contrast to the real parliament these days dominated by confusion and quarrel. The youth parliament was also adjudged by Principal, Vice Principal and the Senior Teachers.
Overall the competition was very interesting and resembled like a battle of wits with a surge of vivacity and vigor. The young leaders discussed, debated, disagreedand decided on relevant issues exhibiting and ideal parliamentary proceedings with complete discipline and decorum, keeping the dignity of the speaker and parliament.
